Is Nitenpyram useful to your pets?

Nitenpyram is an insecticide used for the treatment of flea infestations. It starts killing adult fleas that are on the pet within 30 minutes, but its effectiveness only lasts 24-48 hours. It kill adult flea but does not kill immature forms of the flea. Nitenpyram is a neonicotinoid, meaning it is similar to another pesticide nicotine. It acts on the flea central nervous system by binding to acetylcholin receptors. Acetylcholine is an essential neurotransmitter, and blockage of the receptor interferes with the passage of nerve signals and leads to impairment of the insect’s central nervous system. Nitenpyram works by being absorbed into the blood of the treated animal and then poisoning the feeding parasites (fleas or ticks). Nitenpyram interferes with the central nervous system of the parasitic insects and causes almost immediate death, therefore providing an infested pet with relatively quick relief.

It works very fast and will be very useful in certain circumstances such as prior to surgery, boarding, or grooming. It will also be useful to use before returning from shows, trials, dog parks, or other areas where a pet may be exposed to fleas. It does not protect against ticks or mites.

It also has ovicidal activity. When used as a fliar spray nitenpyram shows translaminar activity. Keep Nitenpyram in a seal package at room temperature. Store away from heat and direct sunlight.
