What to eat if you have Crohn’s Disease

If you’ve got inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), you need to make calories count.

Certain foods won't speed gut healing, but there are plenty that can help you stay well-nourished without aggravating symptoms, says Tracie Dalessandro, RD, a nutritionist based in Briarcliff Manor, NY, who also has Crohn’s disease.

Here are some foods that should be easy on your digestion. However, the right Crohn's diet is highly individual—so use trial and error to see what works for you.

Many people with Crohn’s are lactose intolerant. Luckily, there’s a great dairy alternative: almond milk, which is made from ground-up almonds and can be fortified to contain as much calcium as regular milk (check the label). Almond milk also has vitamin D and E, but contains no cholesterol or saturated fat, and fewer calories than cow’s milk. Many varieties contain added sweetener; choosing an unsweetened product cuts about 20 calories per serving.

Oatmeal is a great choice if you have Crohn’s. “Oatmeal is even OK when I’m flaring, if I’m not flaring too badly,” McDonald says.Insoluble fiber—the kind in raw veggies, fruits, and nuts—draws water into the colon and can worsen diarrhea for those with IBD. But oatmeal has soluble fiber, which absorbs water and passes more slowly through your digestive tract, says Dalessandro, who is also a nutritional advisor to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America.

People with Crohn’s may think they should avoid fruit, but even during a flare, tropical fruits are an easy-to-digest, nutritious option. Papaya contains an enzyme, papain, which helps your body digest proteins; this butter-soft fruit is also rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, folate and potassium, and is available year-round. Cantaloupe is a good choice too.

Avocado, soft, smooth, and chock-full of good fats, B vitamins, vitamin E, and potassium, avocados should definitely be on the menu if you have Crohn’s disease.

Some foods or eating habits can exacerbate symptoms. Each person is different, so you may need to use trial and error to see what helps (or hurts) your symptoms.
Shrimp and white fish like tilapia and flounder are also nutritious and easily digestible. Prepare seafood by steaming, broiling or grilling, and skip the deep-fat fryer.

What Are the Benefits of Taking Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3, or niacin, usually comes from meats and fish, and it should not necessarily be taken in isolation outside of multivitamins. Vitamin D3 is a chemical synthesized in skin when we are exposed to ultraviolet light, and has a wide range of beneficial health properties. Without adequate levels of vitamin D3, we are more at risk of mineral deficiencies, bone deformities, poor immune function and depression.

Vitamin D3 plays an important role in brain development and a 2008 study of increased autism rates in Somali children indicate a possible link to maternal D3 deficiency. As a steroid hormone, Vitamin D3 plays an important role in emotional development and gross motor coordination.

The risk of taking too much supplemental Vitamin D3 is very low. In fact, a person would need to consume large quantities of Vitamin D3, over a period of weeks, before reaching a toxic level. Dr. R.Vieth published an exhaustive review of the toxicity level of Vitamin D3 in 1999, in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, alleviating unfounded fears of low-level toxicity.

If you live in a part of the world where there is little chance of sun exposure due to dark and bitter winters, then a supplement of Vitamin D3 is highly recommended. Even if you live in a tropical climate and need to use a sunscreen often, this would block your body's capacity to produce the vitamin naturally. It would be advisable to opt for the supplement in such a case. In the US, milk and bread products are fortified with vitamin D3.

Varity Uses of Chrysin

Chrysin is one of a class of polyphenols known as "flavonoids" - which are often called "bioflavonoids" when they occur in foods or supplements. Other, well-known flavonoids include quercetin , and epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG, found in green tea).

Chrysin is available as an herbal supplement, some users are taking chrysin with the hope of raising testosterone levels or stimulating testosterone production. One study listed below did not find chrysin supplementation to lead to any significant increase in testosterone production. Chrysin was once believed to be an effective aromatase inhibitor, decreasing the levels of estrogen in the body. The obtained data did not show alterations of the levels of testosterone in the volunteers after 7, 14, and 21 days of treatment in comparison with baseline values and compared with measurements on the control subjects at the same time. In conclusion, the use of these foods for 21 days at the doses usually taken as oral supplementation does not have effects on the equilibrium of testosterone in human males.

To evaluate the effects of Chinese propolis and its constituents [chrysin, galangin, pinocembrin, caffeic acid, and caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE)] against tunicamycin-induced neuronal cell death in SH-SY5Y cells, they did a research. Both Chinese propolis and chrysin concentration-dependently inhibited such cell death, the tunicamycin-induced activation of caspase-3, and the effects of tunicamycin on mitochondria release of cytochrome c into the cytosol and disruption of the mitochondrial membrane potential. Furthermore, Chinese propolis and chrysin each inhibited staurosporine-induced cell death. These findings indicate that the inhibitory effects of Chinese propolis against neuronal cell death induced by ER stress or staurosporine may be exerted primarily by chrysin. Moreover, the mechanism underlying the protective effects may, at least partly, involve inhibitions of caspase-3 activity and the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway.

In addition, chrysin inhibited tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha-induced activation of NF-kappaB in IEC-6 cells. These findings suggest that chrysin exerts potentially clinically useful anti-inflammatory effects mediated through the suppression of NF-kappaB activation.

Comprehensive Study on Garlic supports its effects for Heart healthy

Garlic is a sulphurous compound and in general a stronger tasting clove has more sulphur content and hence more potential medicinal value. Some people have suggested that organically grown garlic tends towards a higher sulphur level and hence greater benefit to health.

Shandong University(China) researchers recently investigated and studies 26 programmes on garlic and antilipemic effect. After contrast, the group of garlic, these participants' cholesterol levels dropped 0.28 mmol/L, triglyceride content dropped 0.13 mmol/L. Compared with the blank group, the group of garlic, the content of low density cholesterol or high density cholesterol did not change significantly.

In 26 programmes,22 both male or female are tested and only 4 programmes tests male. These 26 programmes contains garlic oil, garlic powder and mature garlic extract. The effects on high cholesterol participants before experiments and long time intake are more obviously. The researchers said that although garlic is not very effective in reducing cholesterol, garlic can lower blood pressure, reduce blood viscosity and garlic therapy can be beneficial for patients with cardiovascular disease. The future research will determine garlic active substance, whether gender has influence on garlic effects and Utility contrast to conventional cholesterol drugs Statin.

Ethyl ascorbic acid in Skin care

Skin Care/Body care/ Facial care /Hand / Foot

Ethyl Ascorbic Acid is one kind of Vitamin C ramification. It dissolves in both oil base and water base. It can easy penetrate horniness to reach the dermis, and by the action of enzyme it decompounds and releases free Vitamin C.

As a mild reducing agent, ascorbic acid degrades upon exposure to air, converting the oxygen to water. The redox reaction is accelerated by the presence of metal ions and light. It can be oxidized by one electron to a radical state or doubly oxidized to the stable form called dehydroascorbic acid.

It can effectively inhibiting the formation of melanin by restrain the Cu2+ activity of tyrosinase. It also can inhibit dermatitis and improve the skin color and elasticity. It can easy penetrate horniness and reach the dermis, then the enzyme decompounds them and releases the Vitamin C. It also can effectively inhibiting the melanin formation by restrain the Cu2+ activity of tyrosinase, inhibit dermatitis and improve the skin color and elasticity. Moreover, this product not only can effectively enhance the effect of Vitamin C but also is much more stable than the usual Vitamin C.

Krill Oil is becoming Popular

Krill Oil is becoming Popular

Krill are shrimp-like crustaceans eaten by blue whale. The oil extracted from these crustaceans contains important omega-3 fatty acids such as EPA and DHA, found in fish oils. Krill oil also has a high amount of a potent antioxidant called astaxanthin along with small amounts of vitamin A and vitamin E, and perhaps small amounts of other beneficial compounds.

Krill oil contains omega-3 fatty acids, which is the main reason it's becoming popular as a nutritional supplement. Unlike many other antioxidants, astaxanthin crosses the blood-brain barrier, where it could theoretically protect the eye, brain and central nervous system from free radical damage.

Some studies indicate it to have potential benefit in maintaining healthy cholesterol and also to play a role in premenstrual syndrome and menstrual cramps. More research is needed before determining with confidence the role of this supplement in health and disease. I also need to see more research to determine if krill oil supplements offer any major advantages over fish oil supplements. Until head to head comparisons are done, it would be premature to claim that krill oil is better than fish oil, or vice versa.

Herbal Medicine is still Relevant Now

Herbal Medicine is still Relevant Now

Herbal medicine is arguably the oldest type of drugs and has been utilized by man for millennia.

Herbal medication is the employment of plant materials to reinforce well being and treat disease. Nowadays, folks all over the globe are still using herbal remedies, that are past down through the generations, which increasingly, scientific analysis is validating.

Herbs are used as medicines for both man and beast, they're used to flavour food, enhance style and are common ingredients in natural skin care products, soaps, potpourris, ointments, food and several other areas of human life. They need even found their way into remedies for our pets and livestock.

Up till concerning 200 years ago, before western medicine was conceived of, herbal remedies where the only medicine available to man for treatment of diseases and diseases. The Chinese and Egyptians developed traditional systems of medicine (Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic Drugs, respectively) that incorporate a scientific approach to the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Since the early nineteenth century, methods of chemical analysis became additional subtle and chemists began making their own synthetic versions of the ingredients originally found in herbs, starting the transition from raw herbs to synthetic pharmaceuticals.

Today, pharmaceutical firms are still heavily researching herbs/plants for 'new medicines' which will prove useful in treating many of nowadays's diseases, for that orthodox medicine has very little or no answers.

Since the advent of drug manufacture, users of pharmaceutical medication have increasingly experienced more and a lot of aspect-effects and resistance to these changed sorts of medications.

This begs the query, why attempt to repair one thing, when it isn't broken? Herbal drugs is operating furthermore today as it's for tons of years and with respect to facet-effects, herbal drugs causes far fewer adverse reactions and related health issues than their synthetic counterparts. Additionally, herbal medicines are a lot of simply tolerated as a result of the constituents don't seem to be of a synthetic sort, which are known to have potential long run, and typically irreversible aspect effects.

This is not to say that taking any old herb is safe, far from it. Herbal medicines need to be treated with nice respect and due diligence, as they too can cause damage if not used appropriately. However, herbal medicines generally do not pose the identical risks of side-effects or adverse reactions as their artificial counterparts. The human metabolism is designed to metabolise naturally occurring substances, and is not forever in a position to metabolise synthetic medication absolutely, probably inflicting a myriad of health issues and occasionally deadly facet-effects.

It is necessary to require time and care in selecting the proper herbs - your health and wellbeing depends on it.

Bitter Melon Extract, Not bitter, But useful

Bitter Melon Extract, Not bitter, But useful

Bitter melon is a tropical and subtropical vine of the family Cucurbitaceae, widely grown in Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean for its edible fruit, which is among the most bitter of all fruits[citation needed] . This herbaceous, tendril-bearing vine grows to 5 m. It bears simple, alternate leaves 4–12 cm across, with three to seven deeply separated lobes. Each plant bears separate yellow male and female flowers. In the Northern Hemisphere, flowering occurs during June to July and fruiting during September to November. Its many varieties differ substantially in the shape and bitterness of the fruit. This is a plant of the tropics. It has 600 years cultivation history in China.

Main effective substance in it includes Charantin, other bitter melon seeds glycosides, high-energy clear grease substance, bitter melon polypeptide and citrulline, etc.

Effects:
1. An antidiabetic effect. Bitter melon contains steroidal saponins such as balsam pear element, para-insulin and alkaloid, these substances show antidiabetics activity.
Bitter melon also contains a lectin that has insulin-like activity due to its nonprotein-specific linking together to insulin receptors. This lectin lowers blood glucose concentrations by acting on peripheral tissues and, similar to insulin's effects in the brain, suppressing appetite. This lectin is likely a major contributor to the hypoglycemic effect that develops after eating bitter melon
In 2007, a study by the Philippine Department of Health determined a daily dose of 100 mg per kilogram of body weight is comparable to 2.5 mg/kg of the antidiabetes drug glibenclamide taken twice per day. Tablets of bitter melon extract are sold in the Philippines as a food supplement and exported to many countries.

2. Antiviral: Bitter melon extract has been used for psoriasis and may delay cataract or retinopathy.
Laboratory tests suggest compounds in bitter melon might be effective for treating HIV infection.[18] As most compounds isolated from bitter melon that impact HIV have either been proteins or lectins, neither of which are well-absorbed, it is unlikely that oral intake of bitter melon will slow HIV in infected people.

3. loss weight. From bitter melon extract of bioactive components in high energy clear fat meat has the good loss weight effect. After study shows a daily dose of high-energy clear grease substance for 2 mg - 4 mg can help absorb the 6 to 12 kg fat in the waist, abdomen, buttocks, thigh of the place such as fat about 3 to 7 kg resolved.

Lycopene may reduce the risk of stroke

Researchers in East of the university of Finland found that the lycopene in tomatoes and tomatoes food can reduce the risk of a stroke by 50% or more.

In this study, the researchers recruited 1031 males aged from 46 to 65 years old, tracking 12 years. In the meantime, a total of 67 men had stroke. Analysis showed that in the plasma concentration of lycopene, 25 people got stroke in 258 people whose plasma concentration are the lowest.Meanwhile, only 11 people suffer from stroke in 259 people whose plasma concentration are the highest. This suggests that lycopene intake can reduce the risk of stroke by 59%.

The researchers said that this research shows that more lycopene intake can reduce the occurrence of male stroke and ischemic stroke, but further studies will determine its mechanism of action.

Usnic Acid in Usnea Extract

Usnic acid is uniquely found in lichens, and is especially abundant in genera such as Alectoria, Cladonia, Usnea, Lecanora, Ramalina and Evernia. Many lichens and extracts containing usnic acid have been utilized for medicinal, perfumery, cosmetic as well as ecological applications. Usnic acid as a pure substance has been formulated in creams, toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorants and sunscreen products, in some cases as an active principle, in others as a preservative. In addition to antimicrobial activity against human and plant pathogens, usnic acid has been shown to exhibit antiviral, antiprotozoal, antiproliferative, anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity. Ecological effects, such as antigrowth, antiherbivore and anti-insect properties, have also been demonstrated.

Usnic acid is found in over-the-counter weight loss supplements, but no clinical evidence is available justifying its use in this way. Usnic acid is not typically consumed by people, but is used in some cosmetic products. Improper use of usnic acid has been associated with severe medical consequences.

In addition to its unproven weight loss properties, usnic acid has also been associated with other unproven claims. Usnic acid has been researched for use as an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, anti-viral, and fever and pain reducer.
