In Netherlands Leiden University Medical Center, a new study on mouse shows, hops (Humulus lupulus L.) extracts help control weight, enhanced metabolic activity. Meta060 hop extract in this research is iso-alpha acid extracted from hops extracts.
In this study, the researchers divided mouse into four groups, the first group was fed a low-fat diet, the second group was fed a high-fat diet, and the third group was fed add a high-fat diet containing Meta060 hop extract, the fourth group was fed a high-fat diet containing anti-diabetic drugs rosiglitazone. The study lasted for 20 weeks. The results show that compared with the average weight of 37.9 g of a high-fat diet group, hops extract can significantly reduce weight of the average was 30.6g. Moreover, compared to the rosiglitazone group, the hop extract can improve glucose tolerance.
The researchers said that the test of metabolism also shows the Meta060 hop extract does not influent total energy consumption, food intake, or secretion of fatty acids in the feces. Thus,mechanism test can not explain the effects of Meta060 of mouse. This research supported that Meta060 can be used as substitutive therapy of anti-diabetic or anti-obesity, but we also need to progress to evaluate its clinical application.
